The Iridium GO! exec fills the gap that Starlink leaves — offshore passages, polar routes, and anywhere the Starlink constellation doesn't reach. Data speeds are modest (suited for messaging, email, and weather downloads rather than streaming), but the coverage is truly global. For offshore sailors and remote expeditions, it's the only option.
Starlink's low-earth orbit constellation covers most populated areas and coastal waters but has gaps in polar regions and some remote ocean areas. The Iridium network uses 66 satellites in polar orbits, providing true 100% global coverage including both poles and every ocean.
The Iridium GO! exec provides data speeds of up to 88 kbps — much slower than Starlink but sufficient for messaging, email, weather file downloads, and position reporting. It's a complement to Starlink for offshore passages, not a replacement.
Unlike Starlink, the Iridium GO! exec supports voice calls via satellite. This is critical for offshore sailors who need to communicate with marinas, weather routers, or family when data connectivity is limited.
